Unlike Hajj, which takes place on fixed days in Dhul Hijjah, Umrah can be performed for most of the year. The right time for you depends on your budget, your health, the weather you are comfortable with and how crowded you expect the Haramain to be.
Ramadan: the most rewarding — and the busiest
Umrah in Ramadan carries special virtue: the Prophet ﷺ said that an Umrah in Ramadan is equal in reward to Hajj (Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim). As a result it is also the busiest and most expensive season, with flights and hotels filling up early. If you plan to travel in Ramadan, enquire well in advance.
Winter months: comfortable weather
From roughly November to February, temperatures in Makkah and Madinah are much milder, which makes Tawaf, Sa'i and Ziyarat easier — especially for elderly pilgrims and families with children.
Summer months: hotter, often better value
Summer temperatures in Makkah regularly rise above 40°C. Many pilgrims still travel in this period, and prices can be more affordable outside school holidays. Plan your ibadah for the cooler hours and stay well hydrated.
The Hajj period
Around the Hajj season, Umrah visas are usually paused so that the holy cities can receive Hajj pilgrims. Check with us for the exact dates each year before planning your travel.
